Loesje is a girl, she was born in Arnhem, Holland on Thursday, November 24th, 1983 at 6:40 p.m. Some weeks before, her birth had been announced by posters on the streets. Together with a group of nine friends she started her energetic life as postergirl on the streets of Arnhem.
On the day she was old
enough to travel on her own, she got herself one of those fancy
passports, a world atlas, and went abroad.
It is hard to keep track on all the thousands of posters that are
spread every year, but she understood they are spread in the whole of
Europe and some countries outside as well, she has friends on every
continent.

What is Loesje all about?
The girl, and collective of, Loesje is a group of people who all join in, write texts, spread the posters and do some creative actions. Loesje's texts are never taking a stand for left or right, but she likes to criticize what is going on in our societies, and around us all. She is always trying to see things from a positive side, and hopes to make you see things in a new perspective.
All over the world the different Loesje-groups are interested in different activities and also write different kind of texts, depending on what is happening in their specific region or town.
The texts are also not the same everywhere because different things appeal to creative and critical thinking in different regions, due to the local cultures.
A Loesje text is not pointing out what one should think, never moralistic, simply because there are no wrong or rights. So everyone is free to do one's own interpretation of a text. And everyone can also join in and write texts, it is a association process that is based on a group.
We write new texts every week, cause new ideas are born every day. Some we translate to many languages. But every culture has it's own kinds of humour and differences; so I prefer to write in the native language of the people she wants to reach.
From Loesje's international office in Berlin we co-ordinate international activities, help people get in touch with each other, to help with starting up a group or to give workshops. There we make the international text series, a website where you can find thousands of posters and a forum for sharing your thoughts and ideas, and a bulletin, the monthly newsletter that keeps track of happenings in different parts of the world.
